Counselling – all ages – children, youth, adults, couples, parents, seniors

Individual counselling offers a range of benefits if you are seeking support for various personal, relationship and/ or mental health issues. Counselling provides a safe and confidential space for you to express thoughts, feelings, and concerns. Gene will tailor her approach to address your specific needs and goals. If you are dealing with mental health or emotional issues, counselling can reduce symptoms such as anxiety, depression, worries, and stress. The insights and skills you will discover through counselling can have long-lasting effects – increased resilience, improved relationships, and an enhanced ability to cope with life’s challenges.

Social and Emotional Learning – Children and Youth

Social and emotional learning is like the foundation for a child’s personal growth. Lifelong learning and success can be linked to understanding our feelings, building positive relationships, making friends, exploring one’s creativity and unique gifts, and learning problem solving skills for tough situations. Gene is experienced in working with children, adolescents, and their parents to enrich social and emotional skills. The aim is for children and youth to learn strategies to manage their emotions (like anger, sadness, anxiety, shyness), enrich their communication and friendship skills, and make empowered choices. This learning will help them throughout their whole lives. Participating in SEL is like giving children and youth a toolkit to help tackle life’s challenges.

Parenting Enrichment Counselling

Gene is an experienced parent group facilitator, an accredited social worker, trained in family therapy, and has training in contemporary parenting programs, such as Tuning into Kids; and Tuning into Teens. Strengthening the parent-child relationships is a key focus of parent enrichment programs. By improving communication and understanding between family members, parents and carers can generate supportive relationships with their children and teens, fostering a sense of trust, respect, openness, and connection. Gene has a deep professional commitment to supporting parents and carers through challenging times.

Parents with deaf or hard of hearing children and children with disabilities - specialist counselling support.

Raising and educating deaf children and children with diverse and unique needs often leads parents to contemplate – how to best provide emotional, educational, and social growth opportunities for their children? As their child’s first teacher, parents have a unique role in this. Gene has worked with deaf children and their families, over their ages and stages of growth – from the toddler years, through to young adulthood. If you would like a safe place to explore your thoughts, ideas and concerns, Gene can support your growth and confidence, as parents and carers, to develop ways to meet these challenges.

Social Work Supervision

Gene provides supervision for social workers seeking professional supervision and support. Gene has extensive social work experience across a variety of sectors: in the disability sector, early education, school education, with families, and facilitating parenting programs. Gene will work with you in a safe and supportive space, enabling you to unpack current work situations, collaborating in a way that meets your needs, encouraging your agency, insight, empowerment, and professional growth.
